Contrary to the practice of most consulting or staffing firms, Print/Mail Consultants does
not bill clients based on an hourly rate. In fact, we don’t have an hourly rate at all.
We also don’t charge for normal travel expenses from our offices to yours, or for hotel,
meals, and ground transportation while on site at your location.
There are many reasons for these policies. But at the end of the day we feel that a fee
based upon the value that is derived from doing the project is fairer to our customers than
one that is based on how long it took us to do the job.
Our clients see a lot of benefits to this value-based billing approach.
1. You will know up front exactly how much the project will cost. There are no
surprises.
2. If additional work that must be performed is discovered in the course of the
project, you won’t have to go through another budgetary review (and its inherent
delays) to get additional funds.
3. If we decide that additional resources are necessary on a project, there is no
additional cost provided you haven't requested a scope or timing change. In most
consulting contracts, bringing on additional people means paying for another body
that is “on the clock”.
4. There is never a meter running if circumstances create some idle time. Who
wants to be counting up the dollars wasted on consulting fees if resources are late
to a meeting or some other delay occurs?
5. There will never be any debate or question about what is billable time and how it
was spent (travel, work done away from your site, etc.).
6. The billing and payment administrative tasks are greatly simplified for you and
for us. By not billing for expenses there are far fewer bill-generation, invoice
approvals, and reconciliation activities that need attention. We can all spend more
time tackling the challenges you brought us on to handle.
7. We are motivated to get in and produce results, instead of ensuring that a
project generates the budgeted number of billable hours.
8. This is by far the easiest way to work together. It fosters a relationship where our
organization and our clients are interested in the same things – quickly producing
the desired outcomes that in turn will generate the pre-determined value.
